In my Introduction to Inclusion class, we are currently studying the effects of bullying. Did you know that 28 percent of students ages 12–18 report being bullied at school? 160, 000 students stay home from school everyday due to bullying. As a future educator, I will more than likely encounter bullying in my classroom or school someday, and it is my job stop and prevent it. This class has been helping me learn strategies that I can implement someday when faced with a student who is being bullied. Establishing a code of conduct for all students, having set consequences in place, encouraging students to report bullying, and leading by example are just a few things teachers can do to help fight against bullying. I highly encourage all teachers to research and become aware of strategies you can use to help prevent bullying in schools. There are multiple sources of information regarding bullying available to teachers. A couple sites I really found helpful are www.stopbullying.gov and www.tolerance.org/supplement/bullying-guidelines-teachers.
