TodaysMeet is a free online discussion tool used in classrooms to make sure everybody's voices and opinions are heard. Teachers can open and name "a room" and choose how long it is active for (a week, a day, or even a year). All students need is the name of the room and a web browsing device such as a smart phone, iPad or computer to join the discussion. In the URL they simply type www.todaysmeet.com/room name. Students can join the discussion using their real name or an anonymous nickname. TodaysMeet then acts as a conversation board. The teacher can post questions or comments and students can answer anonymously or publicly. TodaysMeet is a great way to enhance the classroom, enable open discussions, and empower students. It gives everyone the floor and lets even the quietest students express themselves. Here is a link to a tutorial for more information.
Kahoot is an awesome formative assessment tool that allows teachers to create engaging quizzes, discussions and surveys. Students can then take these quizzes using any device with a web browser such as phones, iPads, laptops and more. Creating these quizzes are quick and easy. This is so much better than your average pencil and paper quiz! Get the whole class involved by projecting the quiz on the board and have your students answer using a set of class tablets. Your students don't even need an account to play, just you! Kahoot creates a fun game-like environment that captivates learners. Students can either enter their real names for a competitive game or enter nicknames to keep quiz results anonymous. However you choose to use it, Kahoot is a fun way to incorporate technology into your classroom. It is a quick and easy way to get students actively engaged in their learning. Here is a link to a Kahoot tutorial for more information. Technology integration has drastically changed since my early elementary years, and there is no question that it has become an extremely common element in most children's lives today. I think teachers finally realized that technology is a huge tool available for students to enhance their education. Technology keeps children engaged and active in the learning process and it would be wrong to not allow our students the access to the many forms of technology available to them today. I believe that because of this realization, technology integration has taken off in schools across the country. However, it is extremely important that teachers take the responsibility to teach children how to use technology in safe and enriching ways. Educational technology is here to stay and I strongly believe that when it is used appropriately, technology can have positive impacts on children's social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Technology has become a vital necessity in school classrooms for any age. And boy how it has changed! From overhead projectors to smart boards, from desktop computers to tablets, technology is constantly evolving. As the world of technology is changing so are learners. It is our job as teachers to make sure schools are adapting educational technology in order to increase student engagement, improve learning, and build vital 21st century skills. How many of you have heard of the SAMR model? It's a tool to help educators infuse technology into teaching and learning. Check out the video I created explaining the model! Resources: (2012).
